The Indian Wolf has been Declared Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species
The Indian wolf was recently declared Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List, an assessment that marks the first time the species has been globally recognized and evaluated separately as a distinct lineage. With only an estimated 2,877–3,310 mature individuals remaining across India and Pakistan, the assessment highlights that the ancient wolf population is facing a steady decline due to habitat loss and severe human persecution, urgently necessitating dedicated conservation efforts
